The sustainable packaging market is expected to reach $400m by 2024, according to a new report from Zion Market Research. The report lists major players in the sustainable packaging market including Amcor, Bemis, Tetra Laval, Sonoco, Mondi, BASF SE, Westrock Company, as well as other prominent global packaging companies.
Last month, Amcor announced its commitment to becoming an environmentally sustainable packaging company. According to Amcor, it is the first company in the world to commit to developing entirely recyclable or reusable packaging. Amcor said that it would use its "capabilities, scale and influence" to help solve persistant recycling challenges.
In April 2018, Mondi helped consumer goods company Henkel find a technical solution that allowed it to incorporate more waste plastic into a powerful, aesthetically-pleasing flexible laminated packaging material.
In late January, packaging company Smurfit Kappa called on the industry and its designers to develop more sustainable packaging solutions. Smurfit Kappa noted that packaging accounts for nearly 45% of global plastic demand, and that packaging design plays a crucial role in reducing the amount of waste and achieving a more sustainable future.
